Classes & Workshops

Thank you for your interest in classes and workshops at the Geyer Education Center. Outlined below are the classes we are currently offering. We are excited to share the theatre world with your child and YOU. That’s right; we have classes for adults too! We have classes for ALL AGES!  All classes will participate in a Recital/Reception at the end of May, date is to be determined. Please if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask! Miss Mandy Onder, our Head Teacher and Education Director, is available to answer any questions should they arise. Classes for Kids

Munchkin Music
Wednesdays  –  4-4:50pm  – $5.00 per session (cost includes parent and child)
Dates – 6 sessions – April 17, 24, May 1, 8, 15, 22
Instructor: Mandy Onder
Child must have adult present. Ages 3months and up. Bring your little one to experience the wonderful world of music in a safe, playful, carefree environment where we learn and explore together.  We will sing fun songs, explore instruments, while learning to dance to our own beat!  $5.00 for child and parent, $3.00 for each additional child.

Geyer Choir
Wednesdays – 5-7pm – 6 sessions – Cost $35.00
Dates – April 17, 24, May 1, 8, 15, 22
Instructors: Mandy Onder and Rebekah Laughlin
Students ages 7-18 will learn hit songs such as FIGHT SONG and YOU CAN’T STOP THE BEAT to share with the surrounding community in performances scheduled after our sessions in late May.  Students will learn performance basics along with catchy songs, choreography, and teamwork in just a few short weeks. Performances TBD (End of May).

Musical Theatre Performance
Mondays – 5-7pm – 7 sessions + Performance – Cost $80.00
Dates – April 15, 22, 29, May 6, 13, 20, Dress Rehearsal and Performance Day (TBD)
Instructor: Carmen LoPresti
Geared towards teens ages 14-18.  Musical Theater Performance will take the student on a journey of Broadway through the years!  There will be seven sessions meeting every Monday from 5-7pm starting April 15. Students choose songs from each genre then perform it the following week for the class. This is an intense class for students looking to expand their repertoire. Week 1. Intro to the course (Bring anything), Week 2. Golden Age, Week 3. Golden Age, Week 4. 60s/70s/80s, Week 5. 2000-Modern, Week 6. 2000-Modern, Session 7. Recital Prep (TBD)

Acting Class
Thursdays – 4:30-6pm – April 18, 25, May 2, 9, 16, 23 – 6 sessions – Cost $50.00
Ages 10 and up. Learn acting basics with Miss Mandy. Students learn the fundamentals of acting while developing a respect and understanding of what acting is. Students will examine characters and get a hands-on experience through a scene with a partner from the class and with one of our directors from our directing class.

Directing Class
Thursdays – 4:30-6pm – April 18, 25, May 2, 9, 16, 23 – 6 sessions – Cost $50.00
Ages 12 and up. Learn directing basics with Miss Mandy.  Students will learn all about perspective and point of view while developing their own creative eye for character development and meaningful blocking. Students will get a hands-on experience directing their very own scene with actors from our acting class.

Introduction to Dance
Tuesdays – April 23, 30, May 7, 14, 21, Dress Rehearsal (End of May, TBD)
Instructor: Vanessa Clarke-Deaver
Ages 8 and up. This course is perfect for those who are interested in getting their feet wet in different genres and styles of dance! In this unique approach, each week will focus on a specific genre of dance. While geared towards beginners, this class could be extremely beneficial to performers and actors who want to develop their dance skills without the commitment or limitation of a conventional studio.

Stage Make-Up
Saturday May 18th 12-2:30pm  – Cost $75.00
Students ages 12 and up are invited to come learn basic stage make-up techniques and beginners gore make-up!  We will also touch briefly on character work.  Each student will take home their own Ben Nye Personal Make-up Kit and a prosthetic piece.


Kid’s Creative Writing Class
Thursdays - 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm – April 18, 25, May 2, 9, 16, 23 – Cost: $30
Come write your own play with Miss Mandy and Mr. Andrew! In just a few short sessions, we will learn about developing a story and try our hand at bringing our ideas to life. You must be able to write complete sentences in order to take this class- 2nd grade and up please. Talk to Miss Mandy if you have questions.

KIDS Painting Class – Unique Unicorn

Sunday, April 28 – 2:00-4:00pm – Cost $30.00

Kids ages 8 and up can join us to try their hand at creating this mystical Unique Unicorn with Geyer Board Member, Jaydene Nelson!  Students will be guided through the painting process in a safe, carefree environment.
Light refreshments will be served.

Classes for Adults

Geyer Play Reading & Discussion Group
Sunday  – 4-6pm – April 28, May 5, 12, 19, 26, June 2
This group lead by Rachel Carey will meet weekly to discuss a different play. The scripts will be provided before each meeting via email. We will be reading the plays together as a group and have a post reading discussion touching on the themes and contemporary meaning. We will also discuss practical application. What are ways that you would direct this play? How would you envision costumes and set? What message would you want to leave the audience with? Are there any roles you can see yourself in?

The plays we will be discussing in the Spring are as follows:

Geyer Choir (ADULTS)

Do you love to sing?  Would you like to share your gifts with your community?  This group will meet based off the schedules of the adults in this group.  We will pick songs based off of vocalists, rehearse, than take our music to local nursing homes with our younger Geyer Choir group.

Creative Writing (ADULTS)
Thursdays – 7:00-8:00 pm – April 18, 25, May 2, 9, 16, 23
Do you like to write, but are afraid to share your craft? Are you working on a story, and need some constructive feedback? Are you suffering from a serious case of writer’s block, and need some inspiration? If so, this might be the workshop for you. This group, led weekly by Andrew Johnson, will both share pre-written works as well as do creative writing exercises to get those creative juices growing!

Stretching, Strengthening, & Conditioning
Tuesdays – 7-8pm – April 23, 30, May 7, 14, 21, dress rehearsal day (TBD)
All Classes $45 (pay for all classes at first class)/Drop-in rate: $10 per class
Instructor: Vanessa Clarke-Deaver
This course is designed for the performer/actor who is looking to increase their flexibility, stamina, and strength as a dancer, or someone looking for a unique exercise class. The benefits of flexibility as an actor are limitless, and through workouts and stretches that focus on different parts of the body, this can be achieved.

Art History Lecture with Erin Tiedeman
Religious Images/Icons and Modern Disconnect
Thursday, April 25, 6:30-8pm – Admission is a suggested $10 donation
This fundraising lecture led by Erin Tiedeman (AP Art History Instructor and an AP Art History Reader for the National College Board).  This lecture will give an overview of the history of Christian images.  This narrative with religious imagery will discuss how culture has engaged with images throughout history, how modern culture has discounted with ancient images and how we can reconnect!  All proceeds go to the Geyer Education Program.
